Greek diseases
One very unique disease the affected the ancient Greek people was the Plague of Athens. This disease came about in 430- 429 B.C. This disease spread very quickly and was deadly to all even young men women and children. During this time the Greeks had no access to prescription drugs or cures. The death rates continuously increased and broke out twice. Those survivers of the first round had become immune to the virus. Around this time Greeks were unaware of the contagion of diseases. The symptoms of this diseasse included inflamation, diarrhea, fever, vomiting, abdominal pain, and loss of appetite.
Medical Practices
The doctors of ancient Greece practiced their works privately. The doctors of ancient greece had liberal education. After taking classea and being evaluated by apprentices the doctors were appointed to city-states. Doctors usually prayed to gods when diagnosing their patients with diseases and attempting to heal a person.
Sugar although used as a sweetener common to those wealthier
then most, was also used as a medicine to relieve painful bladder and painful
kidneys.
